| The present review of the Independent Review of the South Australian GM Food Crop Moratorium (Anderson, 2019) reveals that the so-called Independent Review is not independent at all and thus it falls at the first hurdle. Kym Anderson is a long term vocal advocate of genetically modified crops and has expressed such views regularly over the past two decades. The Independent Review was commissioned by the South Australian Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development. There were 216 public submissions, of these, 78% (n=168) were for retaining the existing Moratorium, 18% (n=39) were for scrapping the Moratorium, and 4% (n=8) were undecided. 100% of the food available in Australian supermarkets is GM-free which mirrors the sentiments of Australian... |

| Rudolf Steiner’s Agriculture Course held at Koberwitz (now Kobierzyce, Poland) in 1924 was arguably the world’s first organic agriculture course - although the terms ‘biodynamic agriculture’ and ‘organic farming’ appeared in the decades that followed. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer and others have stated that there were about 60 attendees at the course, while Rudolf Steiner and others have stated that there were about, or more than, 100 attendees. The present study examines the original attendance records to reveal that there were 111 attendees. There were 30 women and 81 men. | Western Australia (WA) has maintained a moratorium on the growing of genetically modified crops since 2003. An exemption was granted in 2008 for growing GM cotton only in a specified remote region of the state. A general exemption was declared in 2010 for growing GM canola anywhere in WA. In a public review, over 400 submissions were received by the government with over ninety percent arguing for retaining the ban on GM crops, while Monsanto, Dow Agrosciences and the Grain Research and Development Corporation argued for lifting the moratorium. | Organic food is produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Four further exclusions in organic production are: genetically modified organisms (GMOs), irradiation, prophylactic antibiotics, and engineered nanoparticles. These six exclusions differentiate organic agriculture from chemical agriculture. | Tasmania has experienced seventy years of organics advocacy (from 1946). Yet Tasmania has just 0.2% of its agricultural land certified organic. Converting the state to organic could take 35,000 years at the current rate - and who has that kind of time? In contrast, Australia has 7.1% of its agricultural land as certified organic. Australia has more organic land than any other country. Tasmania has 4003 certified organic agriculture hectares and 79 certified organic operators (compared to the Australian total of 27.1 million organic agriculture hectares and 2075 certified organic operators). | Torquay was the last foreign trip by Rudolf Steiner, and the last of ten trips to Britain. The International Summer School of the Anthroposophical Society held at Torquay came just two months after the Agriculture Course at Koberwitz. There were no lectures at Torquay devoted to agriculture. However, key figures that would shape the future of biodynamics were together at Torquay and at the side trip to Tintagel. There were at least two attendees from Koberwitz: Dr Guenther Wachsmuth, who would write the Preface to the first English translation of the Agriculture Course, and Dr Elizabeth Vreede whom Steiner nominated at Koberwitz to “give expert assistance from the Goetheanum in the guiding of the experiments”.
